About this event

World Space Week Wrocław

World Space Week Wroclaw 2019 is a series of activities to familiarize mainly young people with the variety of space technologies that we use every day, as well as the history and news of space exploration. An important goal of the event is to show young people the beauty of space and astronomy and inspire them to think about taking up career in the field.
The event is prepared comprehensively, dedicated to children, teenagers and adults, enthusiasts, teachers as well as companies, institutions and organizations from the space sector. The organizers want to convince all parties that both education, passion, science and business must develop in correlations, cooperate and support each other. Only then the space sector in Poland has a chance for impressive, long-term development.

Places and dates of events:
• High School No. XVII in Wrocław, ul. Tęczowa 60 (workshops) – 5/10/2019 between 10:00 and 20:00
• Congress Center Hala Stulecia, ul. Wystawowa 1 (conference) – 6/10/2019 from 10:00 to 20:00

The task will be addressed to children, teenagers, adults, entire families, as well as people from all over Poland interested in the subject.

As part of this year’s event, we plan to implement the following events:
• all-day marathon of workshops for children, youth and adults (5/10/2019),
• popular science conference with excellent guests (6/10/2019),
• European Space Talks with Q nad A session (6/10/2019)
• stratospheric balloon mission (6/10/2019),
• mini fair of companies related to space technologies (6/10/2019),
• space zone (exhibition, workshops, films) (6/10/2019),
• “Polish Stratospheric Challenge” competition for high school students (preview).

The event received the honorary patronage of the Polish Space Agency and the Mayor of the City of Wrocław. Expected number of participants:> 3000 people.

Space and astronomy workshops marathon

Space and astronomy workshop marathon is a set of 40 workshops divided into age categories. Children can build rockets, design their own space robot, create space missions and more. Young people can build a lunar lander, learn how to build a martian rover, build and program arduino-based space tools and much more. Adults can build a LoRa transmitter, learn the basics of astrophotography, and more. A portable planetarium will be available for everybody and at the end of the day we will all create a live sky map.

Space and astronomy conference

The popular science conference is a unique event dedicated to everyone interested in the subject of space technologies and astronomy. The theme of the event will be divided into two categories: history and future. In the first part, participants will hear about historical space missions, space technologies in everyday life and other fascinating issues. In the second part you will be able to learn more about black holes and whether a Pole will become an astronaut.

A Q and A session will be held after each section during which the participants are invited to talk to the Speakers

Space fair

Space fair is a place where participants can meet and talk with space companies, organisations and institutions representatives. Everyone can find out what space companies do on a daily basis.

Space zone (exhibition, workshops, films)

Space zone (exhibition, workshops, films) is a place mainly for kids. They can meet martian rovers, make simple space and astronomy based experiments and watch space movies.

Stratospheric balloon mission

Everyone is welcome to witness a stratospheric balloon mission with live view. A team is going to locate the capsule and bring it back at the end of the conference to present educational experiments carried out during the mission.
