On 4th October 1957, the first artificial satellite was put into orbit around the Earth by the Soviet Union. So, the era of the space and the challenge between the two world superpowers for its conquest began. At the same time themes such as space research and a National program were undertaken. Italy, thanks to the work of the physicist Edoardo Amaldi and the aerospace engineer and colonel of the aeronautics Luigi Broglio, gave a decisive impulse to the European project, but at the same time undertaken on the themes of space research a national program of all respect.
The engineer Bussolino and the journalist Antonio Lo Campi will tell us about those instructive and extraordinary events that have progressively disappeared from the collective memory of our country.
Linda Raimondo will bring us the enthusiasm and passion for the Space sector, her training period was similar to the one carried out by astronauts.
Valentina Sumini instead will tell us about her research work in space at MIT. Her previous postdoctoral research at MIT in the Digital Structures Research Group aimed to explore form finding and structural optimization strategies for deep space exploration habitats on extra planetary surfaces such as the Moon and Mars. New computational design methods for human-material interactions and space surface habitats, that respond to architectural, structural, functional and physical requirements were explored, offering new ways to support future space exploration.
